This time, it's 1971, a year classic rock was king. It was the year of "Led Zeppelin IV," T Rex issued "Electric Warrior," and it was the year of "Sticky Fingers" from the Rolling Stones -- yes, that was the one with the Andy Warhol "zipper" cover.

It's 2005 this time, the year The Current signed on the air! The White Stripes were still together. Locals Tapes 'n Tapes emerged. LCD Soundsystem released their first album. We first heard of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. And Spoon released one of their finest albums.

It's 1964 this time on the Time Machine. We were in the midst of the British Invasion; we'll hear from those bands, like the Beatles the Stones and the Kinks. We have some music from Detroit where Motown was starting to happen, and 1964 was also the year we first heard Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz perform "The Girl from Ipanema."

This time, it's 1991, the year of a shoegaze classic from My Bloody Valentine, who play the Palace Theatre on Wednesday; U2 reinvented themselves and released "Achtung Baby"; R.E.M. had the biggest album of their career; and Nirvana dropped the big one, called "Nevermind."

This time it's 1984: Leonard Cohen first released a song that's been one of the most-covered songs of the last 50 years. It was a big year locally, with "Purple Rain" issued by Prince, along with great albums by the Replacements and by the Suburbs.

It's 1974 this time. Dolly Parton issued a country classic. It was the year of the Rolling Stones' "It's Only Rock n Roll." Bob Marley was still with us and he relased the "Natty Dread" album. And it was a big year for funk, with albums from Stevie Wonder, James Brown, and Parliament.

This time, it's 2004, the year of "American Idiot" from Green Day; Drive-By Truckers issued "The Dirty South" album; and we first heard of Franz Ferdinand and Arcade Fire.

This time, we go back 50 years to the summer of 1968. We'll check out some of the tunes on the charts that summer, and we'll hear tunes from some of the big albums as well. We'll hear artists like Simon & Garfunkel, the Fifth Dimension, the Beatles, and the Band.

This time it's 1996, the year of Fiona Apple's biggest album; Johnny Cash covered a Soundgarden song; Wilco made a stellar two-album set; and Beck taught us that all we needed was two turntables and a microphone.

It's 1989 this time; Fine Young Cannibals had a huge hit -- much of it recorded at Paisley Park here in the Twin Cities. The B-52s, that irresistible little dance band from Athens, Ga., also had a hit album. Neil Young had us rockin' in the free world, and it was the year of "Full Moon Fever" from the late Tom Petty.
