Coffee Break: David Lynch

January brought us the sad news that director and filmmaker David Lynch died at 78. His credits include his 1977 debut Eraserhead, the 1986 cult classic Blue Velvet, and Twin Peaks, the television show that captivated the nation in the 1990s. While Lynch’s legacy reigns supreme on both the big and small screens, he also had a profound impact on music.
Lynch’s work contains songs from artists like Roy Orbison, Chris Isaak, Lou Reed, and others. Each song only enhanced the surreal and slightly haunting nature of Lynch’s catalog. Notably, a different musical act also closed out each episode of the Twin Peaks reboot — one being Minnesota band The Cactus Blossoms, who played their song “Mississippi” at the end of the third episode.
Lynch also released a few albums and even collaborated with artists like Karen O. and Lykke Li. Today, let’s celebrate the impact of David Lynch by creating an eerie playlist.
