Tradition dictates that dictionaries pick a word of the year in December. Merriam-Webster compiled a list of top words from 2024, but one seemed to stand out more than others. According to the publication, the Word of the Year is polarization.

Merriam-Webster defines polarization as “division into two sharply distinct opposites; especially, a state in which the opinions, beliefs, or interests of a group or society no longer range along a continuum but become concentrated at opposing extremes.” The word can describe the year’s events, but luckily (for us) it also applies to music — there are TONS of artists, songs, and genres that people either love or hate. Today, let’s craft a polarizing playlist!

So, for today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs that are highly loved — or intensely hated — would you like to hear?
