Coffee Break: CBGB
December 10, 2024
On December 10, 1973, Hilly Kristal opened the doors of legendary club and music venue CBGB in the East Village of Manhattan. Although the letters in the name stand for country, bluegrass, and blues, CBGB became a hot spot for ushering in the latest in rock, new wave, and punk music — eventually becoming known as the birthplace of punk rock.
Bands like The Ramones, The Misfits, Television, Blondie, Talking Heads, and more all graced the stage at the iconic venue through the years. When the club closed its doors in 2006, Patti Smith played a farewell concert that was broadcast on satellite radio, marking the end of a musical era in New York City. Today, let’s mark the anniversary of CBGB opening its doors by crafting a rockin’ playlist!
So, for today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs from artists or bands who played at CBGB would you like to hear?
