In 1956, an impromptu jam session broke out between Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins. It all happened by chance at Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, and luckily someone thought to record the fun. Multiple recordings were released — the first being The Million Dollar Quartet which dropped in Europe in 1981.

The talent level on this recording is astounding, but Presley, Lewis, Cash, and Perkins were just some of the artists who recorded at Sun Studio. The studio shared a building with the record label of the same name, and several artists who went on to legendary careers recorded in the space. Today, let’s commemorate The Million Dollar Quartet by crafting a Sun Studio Playlist.

So for today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs from artists related to Sun Studio or Sun Records would you like to hear?
