Laufey (pronounced lāy-vāy) is an Icelandic-Chinese singer, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist now based in Los Angeles. She was raised between Reykjavík, Iceland, and Washington, D.C., with yearly visits to Beijing, and she grew up playing cello as well as piano; at age 15, she performed as a cello soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. After exploring her father’s record collection, Laufey was enchanted by the jazz standards of Ella Fitzgerald.

In 2020, while a student at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Laufey released her debut single “Street by Street,” which went on to top the Icelandic radio charts. Following the release of her 2021 Typical of Me EP, Laufey was named Best New Artist in Jazz and Blues at the Icelandic Music Awards.

Her debut full-length Everything I Know About Love, released on August 26, 2022, and it debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative New Artist Album chart. On May 12, 2023, Laufey released a new single, “From The Start,” which amassed more than 1 million Spotify streams within its first day of posting. Laufey’s second album, Bewitched, released on September 8.

Laufey visited The Current studio to perform “From The Start” and another new song, “Promise.”
