There was a lot going on back in 1984. Astronaut Kathryn D. Sullivan became the first woman from the United States to perform a spacewalk. Plus, back in 1984, the Summer and Winter Olympics were held in the same year. Terms of Endearment had a big showing at the Academy Awards, and Madonna, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, and Minnesota legend Prince all topped the charts. (“When Doves Cry” stayed at the top spot for a five-week run, making it the biggest hit of year.)

1984 was a stellar year for Minnesota music. (Our friends at Mpls.St.Paul Magazine even asked if 1984 was the biggest year in pop culture for the state.) From Hüsker Dü’s Zen Arcade (which turns 40 this month) to Purple Rain and the Replacements’ Let It Be, let’s look back at local jams from ’84.

So for today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, which songs released in 1984 by Minnesota artists or producers would you like to hear?
