Friday night at the Amsterdam Bar & Hall in St. Paul, Pokey LaFarge and his band ignited the crowd during a generous and lively Microshow that comprised 15 songs and an encore. LaFarge, who just released his latest album, Rhumba Country, on May 10, integrated the Microshow into a tour schedule that saw him in Duluth the night before and in Viroqua, Wisconsin, the following night. The set list naturally included several songs from the new release, but also dipped frequently into LaFarge’s back catalog, including the title track from 2015’s Something In The Water.
Concert attendees consisted of lucky winners who entered for a chance to win passes to the show. LaFarge and his bandmates took the stage in their glamorous costumes and regaled the audience with an enthusiastic performance. LaFarge showed his chops as a guitarist, vocalist and bandleader, while Erik Miron impressed with his trumpet and guitar abilities — frequently simultaneously. Addie Hamilton sang harmony vocals while tirelessly dancing and/or providing auxiliary percussion. Hank Mehren sizzled on keys, while the rhythm section of drummer Andrew Guterman and bassist Kevin Carducci — the latter sporting a handlebar mustache and 10-gallon hat — kept the band tight and anchored. Check out a whole bunch of photos from the show below.
This Microshow event was supported by Fat Tire Classic Ale.
