Coffee Break: the mullets of rock

Last weekend, downtown St. Paul was awash in high school students and parents attending the Minnesota State High School League boys hockey tournament at the Xcel Energy Center. Something those attending the event in person don’t get to see, at least up close, is the part where they put all the kids on local television during each player’s on-ice introduction at the start of the tournament. Over the years, a number of students have become pretty savvy about this media opportunity by growing out a special coif just for the occasion. The result is a delightfully doofy parade of goofy hairstyles, and Pulltab Sports’ John King has excelled at compiling the best ‘dos into a yearly anthology called the Minnesota State High School All Hockey Hair Team.
This year, King drew a Venn diagram showing the intersection between the High School All Hockey Hair Team and the mullets of country music. It’s a fair point, but country music isn’t the only domain for “business in the front, party in the back.” The mullet has similarly found its way into rock and indie, and we want to celebrate those famous mullets on this side of the charts.
So for today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that were recorded by artists with amazing mullets?
