For the fourth year in a row, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is holding its Name a Snowplow contest — and now the competition is getting down to the crunch!

From more than 8,000 idea submissions, MnDOT has narrowed the field to a list of 50 finalists, and you can vote now for your favorites. Voting will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28. You can only vote once, and you can select up to eight names … but be advised: It won’t be easy keeping your ballot to just eight, because there are so many great names to choose from.

Here at The Current, we couldn’t help noticing how many of the 50 finalists are inspired by music, whether riffs on artists’ names, references to films (with soundtracks), or cheeky twists on song lyrics and titles. This morning, let’s highlight that music.
