Coffee Break: Beatles references
by Jill Riley
November 02, 2023
This morning, the Beatles released what is being called their final song — “Now and Then.” It was created from a cassette containing an at-home recording of the late John Lennon. In the same sessions that “Free As a Bird” and “Real Love” were created, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison never reached the finish line on this track, as the technology to use Lennon’s vocals at the time was limited.
With recent and rapid developments in artificial intelligence, the song now gets to see the light of day. Using AI, Lennon’s vocals were isolated to get a much clearer sound. The single has not only Lennon’s voice, but guitar recorded by Harrison almost 30 years ago, Starr on the drums, and a bassline from McCartney.
To celebrate a release from one of the most legendary bands in history, let’s make a playlist when they are mentioned — whether it be the name of the band, the members themselves, or any of their songs.
For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, which songs that reference the Beatles, individual members, Beatles songs, etc. do you want to hear?
