This week hear new songs from Sufjan Stevens, Olivia Rodrigo, Noname, Turnstile featuring Badbadnotgood & Blood Orange, Ivers and MUNYA.

Sufjan Stevens — “So You Are Tired”

The experience of listening to Sufjan Stevens has always hit straight for the heart, there’s a reason why his music has soundtracked several movie heartbreaks in the past. With the announcement of his new album, Javlin, Stevens is getting right to the point. Not only will this be an album of love songs, but it will be “accompanied by a 48-page book of art and essays…alternatively funny, tragic, poignant, obtuse, and specific — offer little glimpses into loves and losses that have shaped him, and, in turn, these songs.”

Olivia Rodrigo — “bad idea right?”

Sounding like The Breeders and Blondie with a self-facing sneer, “bad idea right?” is a punchy and clever new song from Olivia Rodrigo. While debating if she should go visit an ex, Rodrigo, mocks her own decision making skills and the lies she tells herself to get away with doing exactly what she wants to do.

Noname — “Namesake”

Noname has never been an artist that couched a phrase. She’s been a happy outsider; the Shakespearean chorus that opens eyes to the truth. The new album, Sundial, calls out everyone – Beyonce, beauty standards, NFL, and even herself. It’s a quest for love, for understanding; and a release of anger and frustration. Spitting rhymes and spitting truth as only Noname can, and even with a controversial feature of Jay Electronica, she refuses to apologize.

Turnstile feat. Badbadnotgood & Blood Orange — “Alien Love Call”

Hardcore meets jazz meets R&B for a new remix EP, New Heart Designs. Turnstile recently reached out to Toronto jazz band BADBADNOTGOOD to reworks three songs from the GLOW ON album. The best of the bunch is the chill, hanging-at-the-beach-on-a-cloudy-day, “Alien Love Call.”

Ivers — “Best Behavior”

Bigmouth strikes again on the latest album from MN band, Ivers. The new EP from the four-piece, Best Behavior, hits on best intentions and changing to be the ideal version of yourself. Title track, “Best Behavior,” balances intimate vocals with swirling guitar solos and delicate keys.

MUNYA — “Un Deux Trois”

Munya is the stage name of Québécois musician Josie Boivin. She started her musical journey as an opera singer and in jazz. She’s released a trilogy of EPs and a full length in the last 4 years, this is off her new EP, Jardin, out Oct 13. She found inspiration for this album from Giorgio Moroder and Daft Punk.
