Minneapolis police are looking for the suspects who shot seven people, killing one man, Friday night at a punk rock show.
Police responded to the shooting on the 2200 block of 16th Avenue South around 10 p.m. Early information indicates several adults were at the house venue Nudieland when someone walked up to the alley and began shooting.
“I can’t even conceptualize something like that happening at a punk show,” said Quinn McClurg, who was at the show. “I was making sure all my friends are okay and making sure people are getting the help they needed.”
McClurg said many at the show were LGBTQ+ and there’s concern they may have been targeted.
“I feel very anxious,” McClurg said. “The hardest part is reaching out to folks and telling them, ‘Hey, I just thought you should know I was in a shooting last night like, I’m okay. And I’m safe. But you know, it’s gonna stick with me for a little bit.’ And I’m only going to use it as fuel to like, support my community more and love the people inside it.”
The suspects fled the scene.
“We believe one of the persons was being targeted by a shooter,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara during a Saturday news conference. “We know two suspects ran from the scene. I can’t confirm there were two shooters, though.”
The man who died at the scene was in his thirties. One other person who was shot sustained life-threatening injuries. Minneapolis police are investigating. Authorities had not identified those who were killed or injured as of Monday morning.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will identify the man who died and determine the cause of death. Minneapolis police declined to offer more information Monday morning.
The man who died in the shooting has been identified as August Golden, according to the Star Tribune. “Golden was deeply involved in the punk scene locally and nationally, and was the guy who was always helping with sound or bringing the microphones to warehouse or basement shows similar to Friday's event,” a friend Bryan May said in the report.
There are GoFundme campaigns (here and here) launched to support the victims of this incident.
