April 27, 2023, is the 75th birthday of Kate Pierson, a founding member of the B-52s. Back in the 1970s, Pierson worked at a restaurant in Athens, Ga., with another aspiring musician, Cindy Wilson. Eventually, Pierson and Wilson, along with Wilson’s brother Ricky and their friends Fred Schneider and Keith Strickland, starting playing music together. On Valentine’s Day 1977, the group played their first concert together at a house party on North Milledge Avenue in Athens — and shortly thereafter, the B-52s were born.

Since that day, the lively and fun music of the B-52s has been part of the soundtrack of many a house party. Let’s celebrate that type of music today. For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what bands would you book or what songs would you play at a house party?
