Today is Liz Phair’s 56th birthday! Her 1993 debut album Exile in Guyville was a critical success and has been ranked by Rolling Stone as one the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Phair’s music, along with other singer-songwriters of the time, helped define the indie subculture of the 1990s. Speaking of the 90s, The Current’s 893 essential songs of the 90s ballots are open right now at thecurrent.org! You can vote for your top 10 songs from the decade and tune in during the Spring Member drive in May to hear the count down! Voting is open until this Sunday, April 23rd.

So, dig out your cassettes and CDs, and let’s take an emotional trip down memory lane. For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear from influential singer-songwriters of the 1990s?
