Today is the 25th anniversary of the release of cult classic film, The Big Lebowski. The crime comedy is a staple in the Coen brothers collection. In 2014, The Big Lebowski was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
A notable feature of the film is its eclectic soundtrack. While the Coens were writing the screenplay, they had Kenny Rogers' "Just Dropped In (to See What Condition My Condition Was in)", the Gipsy Kings' cover of "Hotel California", and several Creedence Clearwater Revival songs in mind. They asked T-Bone Burnett (former guitarist for Bob Dylan’s band in the ‘70s, and frequent collaborator with the Coen Brothers) to pick songs for the film’s soundtrack. Burnett secured songs from Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Eagles, The Rolling Stones, and more.
