If the band of young Brits that shook the world with their indie sleaze rock debut in 2006, took a listen to Arctic Monkeys’ new album, The Car, they probably wouldn’t believe they made it.
But as the years since that debut have come and gone, the band has made quick work of leaving a style or sound behind. In fact, during interviews in recent months frontman Alex Turner has mentioned that he wanted “to turn the rock band on and off.” With a fully orchestrated album that sees Turner basking in luxury and washed-up adult pleasures with smooth soul finesse, the rock band does seem fully left behind.
Emotions are closer to the surface than ever before on the dramatic new Arctic Monkeys album, The Car, our Album of the Week on The Current.
