Coffee Break: National Superhero Day
by Jill Riley and Luke Taylor
April 28, 2022
April 28 is National Superhero Day. The annual commemoration was begun in 1995 — perhaps unsurprisingly — by Marvel Comics employees, with the intent to honor superheroes, both real and fictional.
Characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, Batman, Green Lantern, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Spiderman provide role models and encouragement for children and adults alike, with stories of noble deeds to protect people and communities. And those stories aren't just in comic books; stories of superheroes pervade popular culture. Superhero films enjoy ongoing success at the box office and streaming media, and certainly many songwriters have referenced superheroes in song lyrics.
Let's celebrate National Superhero Day with music. For today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear that mention a superhero or were used in a superhero movie soundtrack?
