"This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates," John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement. "These nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world and influenced countless artists that have followed them."
Followers of Rock and Rolll Hall of Fame nominations and inductions will note Chaka Khan was previously nominated as a solo artist and as part of the band Rufus. Carole King and Tina Tuner, if elected, will become the second and third women artists to be inducted twice, the first being Stevie Nicks in 2019. Dave Grohl has already been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Nirvana; if Foo Fighters go through, it will mark Grohl's second induction as a performer.
According to a press release from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, nominee ballots are sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and members of the music industry. Factors such as an artist's musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration.
Fans have a chance to vote for their favorite artists in the nomination list; that ballot will be active on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website until April 30. The inductees will be announced in May, with the induction ceremony planned to take place in Cleveland, Ohio, on an autumn date to be announced.
