Coffee Break: Yellen' for Janet
by Jill Riley and Anna Weggel
January 26, 2021
Yesterday, the Senate confirmed Janet Yellen as the first female Treasury secretary in the country's 232-year history.
She is a former chair of the Federal Reserve, and was approved by the Senate on an 84-15 vote. Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Yellen has a "breathtaking range of experience" and support for her nomination reflected "just how well suited she is to manage the economic challenges of our time...particularly during this moment of economic crisis."
Last week you might have heard Jill mention that Dessa wrote a Hamilton-style song about Yellen that is currently No. 53 on the iTunes Top 100 Hip Hop & Rap Songs list. "I read a lot about her to make sure that she was somebody who I'd like to send up," Dessa told Marketplace host Kai Ryssdal. "And it was really exciting to become a fan of Janet Yellen."
For today's 9:30 Coffee Break in honor of Janet Yellen's name, what songs do you want to hear that feature yelling, screaming, bellowing, etc.?
