When Adam Weiner performed a solo Microshow at the Bryant Lake Bowl in Minneapolis in January, he treated the audience to a couple songs from Low Cut Connie's forthcoming album, Private Lives, expected later this year. One of the new songs Weiner performed is called "Look What They Did"; on Monday, the track and its accompanying video were officially released.
While introducing the song at the Bryant Lake Bowl back in January, Weiner explained, "This is a song about when I was growing up; I grew up in New Jersey.
"I used to go down to Atlantic City every summer," Weiner continued. "I spent all the weekends of my youth in Atlantic City. … It was right when they started building casinos in Atlantic City; things were really in a bad place in the city.
"There's a song that Bruce Springsteen wrote; it's called 'Atlantic City.' I still spend a lot of time down there; things are pretty rough. I thought I would write a sequel to Bruce's 'Atlantic City.' It's called 'Look What They Did.'"
For listeners accustomed to Low Cut Connie's rollicking brand of good-time rock and roll, "Look What They Did" showcases Weiner's more introspective side as a songwriter. The video for the song was shot by Alex Wroblewski, a photojournalist based in Washington D.C.; Weiner and Wroblewski co-directed the video.
