Monday night, Chance the Rapper filled in for late-night host James Corden as host of The Late Late Show on CBS. Corden, who is in production on the upcoming film The Prom, has had a string of personalities fill in as host of the program that bears his name, and Chance embraced the role with aplomb.
Chance, who recently announced he is cancelling a 2020 tour to spend more time with his wife and children and to work on new music, joked that he canceled the tour to spend time with his family and to hone his chops as a late-night host. To those who saw the program, it may appear Chance was only half-joking; his appearance in this host role showcased Chance's dexterity and range as a performer and entertainer.
As the show opened, chance entered the studio and began speaking in a mock English accent, modeled roughly after Corden, until music director Reggie Watts told Chance that wasn't necessary. In the course of the program, Chance hosted comedy set-pieces, interviewed guests (including fellow musician Lil Nas X), and performed the song "Roo" with his brother, Taylor Bennett, the siblings' first-ever television appearance together.
CBS has already made a number of highlights available from the program; you can watch them below:
