Grammy nominees Rodrigo y Gabriela bring their signature sound to The Current studio

Even after a career that has spanned 20 years and counting, Rodrigo y Gabriela still enjoy surprises. The most recent one? Their latest album, Mettavolution, has received a 2020 Grammy nomination in the category of Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. "It's something unexpected for us after 20 years of being around and many albums," Rodrigo Sanchez says. "We are grateful and happy. This is a good moment for us — we already kind of one. It's a victory already."
In town for a concert at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, Rodrigo y Gabriela — the guitar duo comprising Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero — visited The Current studio for a session hosted by Mac Wilson. Rodrigo y Gabriela play selections from their Grammy-nominated album, and they talk about their upcoming release: a Record Store Day special EP called "Mettal," on which the duo cover songs by Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer.
