On their latest album, Fever Dream, Of Monsters and Men took a different approach than on their previous releases, choosing to compose on computers rather than on guitars or keyboards. "In this dynamic as a band, we [had previously] mainly focused on playing together with instruments," says guitarist Ragnar Thorhallson. "So for this [album], we wanted to step away from that, eliminate our roles a bit, and kind of play around more."

The lead single from the album, "Alligator," has exposed Of Monsters and Men's music to a larger audience in the U.S. than the band had previously enjoyed. "That's great," Thorhallson says. "That's what we set out to do. It's nice."

In town for a show at Surly Brewing's Festival Field, Of Monsters and Men's Thorhallson, along with singer/guitarist Nanna Hilmarsdottir and drummer Arnar Rosenkranz, stopped at The Current for an acoustic session hosted by Mac Wilson.

The acoustic version of "Alligator" still captures the anthemic essence of the album version of the song. "This was the very first song that we worked on all together as a band after being in our own corners writing for a while," Hilmarsdottir explains.

"It was a uniting song," Rosenkranz adds.
