Before kickstarting their 2019-2020 tour at the 7th St. Entry today, members Patton Magee (guitar, lead vocals), Shaun Couture (guitar, vocals), Alec Castillo (bass guitar, vocals), Don Merrill (organ, piano, vocals), Austin Brose (percussion, vocals), and Connor Mikita (drums, cowbell) of psych-pop group The Nude Party stopped by The Current studio... clothed.

Performing three songs off of their latest album The Nude Party, the self-described "rock n roll boner pop" band spoke with host Mary Lucia about the move to the Catskills in New York as Black Lips drummer Oakley Munson's new roommates and their transition to playing bigger shows. "We were late all the time," Couture says about what it was like going from house parties to their first club show. "We didn't know the concept of load-in or sound check time."

"The first bar we played at was called Galileo's in Boone," Magee recollects. "It was pretty much just a square room with a bar in it."

From what started in the freshman dormitories at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina in 2012, the psych-pop group has graduated from basements and local bars to big festivals like Hinterland in St. Charles, Iowa with artists like Maggie Rogers and Kurt Vile.

They have certainly worked their way up, and Munson struck a deal with the bandmates to let them live and make music in his house in upstate New York.

"We help around the house, but it's not like indentured servitude or something like that," Magee said after playing the second song of their set, "Astral Man." "Mostly he has us there to continuously write and play music... if we're doing that, he's cool with it."

Still, their mentor's wish is their command when it comes to music as the sextet has a song in the making, which they gave a sneak peak of during the sound check.

Swing by the 7th St Entry to hear the songs "Gringo Che," "Astral Man," "Chevrolet Man" and more as they perform tonight with 2000's Korean pop star BoA.
