Listen to Looch: the story of a band called Luxury

This week, Mary Lucia talks about a new rock documentary, Parallel Love: The Story of a Band Called Luxury. Releasing to theaters (starting in New York) on May 15, the film follows the trajectory of a Georgia band called Luxury who were poised to become '90s alt-rock legends.
"Luxury's heyday was in the mid-90s, when I was fully immersed in radio at that point," Mary says, "and I kept thinking, Why did I never hear about them? because they were being poised as this next big thing: they were from Georgia; they were really odd in the sense that they kept describing them as if Morrissey fronted Fugazi — that the punk-rock elements were all there, but this sort of beautiful-voiced singer with these sexually ambiguous lyrics, and he was really a showman."
A horrific car wreck disrupted Luxury's course. And it's also possible Luxury may have signed with a label that was not the ideal choice for them. And what happens next to the band members is as surprising as the fact they never made it big.

Abramorama will be releasing the film in theaters beginning May 15 at the Roxy Hotel in New York City.
