Some artists can find recording an arduous task. Not so for Mary Timony of Ex Hex, reflecting on the recording process for the band's latest album, It's Real, released March 22 on Merge Records. "I had a blast making this record," Timony says. "I didn't go into it expect that at all, but personally I was having really crazy stuff in my life happen, so this record turned into the most joyful part of my life."
Ex Hex did a lot of experimentation on the record, such as isolating individual drum tracks or aspiring to the producing approach of John "Mutt" Lange. "Ultimately, it was a pretty fun process for me, personally," Timony says.
Now touring in support of the album, Ex Hex have a show Friday, April 12 at the Turf Club in St. Paul. Ahead of the show, Ex Hex — Timony, Betsy Wright, Laura Harris and David Christian — stopped at The Current for a session hosted by Mac Wilson.
