Jain performs in The Current studio
by Mac Wilson and Cecilia Johnson
October 20, 2018
Last time Jain visited The Current's studio, she was about to embark on a big U.S. tour. A year and a half later, she's in the thick of her second one. That's just how fast her world turns. We're grateful, then, that she made time to return to The Current, performing three songs in the studio and sharing conversation with Mac Wilson.
During the session, she returns to "Makeba," an old favorite, and works through new Souldier cuts "Inspecta" and "Alright." "Music makes you travel around the world," she says, and she proves herself right with the wonky samples and Afrobeat hallmarks throughout the tunes.
Between songs, Jain and Mac Wilson talk about the value of curiosity, which genre she's been steeped in for the last couple years, and '80s cartoon franchise Inspector Gadget. Use the audio player above to listen to the complete in-studio session.
