When the city of St. Paul announced the renovation of the Palace Theatre, we had no idea how big of a success the venue would be. After a little more than a year in operation, the 2,500-person capacity theater booked by Jam! Productions and First Avenue has made downtown St. Paul a destination for big-name live music.

You may have noticed some of our previous live streams and recordings — Wilco, First Aid Kit and The Decemberists — and we're excited to announce a couple more, spread out over three nights at the beginning of May.

Friday, May 4: Decemberists broadcast

On Saturday, April 7, The Current streamed live video of The Decemberists in concert at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul. We will broadcast the concert at 9 p.m. CDT. (More info)

Saturday, May 5: Trampled by Turtles live video and broadcast

After a nearly 2-year hiatus, Trampled by Turtles are reunited and releasing more of their signature melodic, thought-provoking, and at times break-neck paced bluegrass. The sold out show at the Palace Theater takes place the day after their highly anticipated new album Life Is Good on the Open Road. The first set will also be broadcast live on The Current's FM signals. Tentative set time: 10:15 p.m. CDT. (Event info)

Sunday, May 6: Dr. Dog live video

Over the past 17 years, Dr. Dog have been a fan's dream band: they haven't broken up, they've released albums often, they keep the quality of their music high, they keep their sound consistent while occasionally venturing into new sonic frontiers, they tour frequently, and — yes — they're amazing live. Tentative set time: 9:15 p.m. CDT. (Ticket/event info)
