Bedouine performs in The Current studio

"I never thought I would play music professionally," Bedouine says. "I just didn't think was realistic."
But the reality of playing music professionally has fully emerged for Bedouine (the performance name of Azniv Korkejian). Bedouine's self-titled debut album caught the attention of the music industry and launched her career. "I've been so happy with the press," Bedouine says. "It felt really good — I felt really validated."
Tonight, Bedouine is playing a triple-bill at First Avenue, opening for Waxahatchee and Hurray For The Riff Raff. Before the show, she stopped at The Current for a session hosted by Mark Wheat.
Now, Bedouine — whose musical style seems a blend of Astrud Gilberto and Joni Mitchell — is looking ahead to a tour of Ireland as well as a spot at the 2018 Newport Folk Festival. All for someone who wanted to develop a career as a music editor in the film industry.
"This was really a passion project, this record," Bedouine says. "I didn't really think it would see the light of day. Everything else was really unexpected."
