Greta Van Fleet may have been helped to the top this week by all the Robert Plant fans trying to win his tix, he's already signed off on these guys. But they were Loudwire's New Artist of the Year and they're playing big festivals like Coachella and Shaky Knees and they've already sold out shows in Houston, Dallas, Nashville and two out of three 'home town' shows at The Fillmore in Detroit.
Brandi Carlile is inducted to the Chart Show Hall of Fame for the second time, her new album 'By The Way, I Forgive You' will be out next Friday. No Twin Cities date has been announced yet. She won't be at Rock The Garden either, but she is in our neighborhood. She's booked to play Bayfield, WI that day and Milwaukee the next.
The biggest mover this week is The Decemberists, up to #6 with the first track from their 'I'll Be Your Girl' album which is out on March 16. Our Music Director David Safar talked with Colin Meloy of the band about how they went about breaking out of their comfort zone.
Lissie's the highest new entry at #7. Her new album comes March 23 and although it was recorded in LA, London, and Berlin, Minneapolis is starting to feel like a second home to her as she explained to Mac.
Also new at #9 is Ty Segall with the Hot Chocolate cover from his recently released new album 'Freedom's Goblin'. He performed on Kimmel last week and even got some crowd surfing going! He'll be playing First Avenue Sat April 7th.
Hard to believe that it's been 14 years since David Byrne had a solo release, but it's coming March 8th and he's lined up the biggest solo tour ever! Already sold out The Orpheum Theater May 17th so he's added another date Friday May 18th and he's new at #10.
The Killers appear to be as popular, if not more, in all the other parts of the world as they are here. The US dates on their world tour so far are confined to festivals like Bonnaroo but they're busy thru July visiting every other part of the world. Their new album 'Wonderful Wonderful' has spawned the #14 song this week.
So Superorganism are NOT just a one hit wonder! The much hyped multi-national band had us all with "Something for your M.I.N.D." Sold out the Entry in March already, but they're back again, with a self-referential song for this band that were built on the internet, with another huge hook, new at #17.
The song new at #19 was once played in our studios when The Rural Alberta Advantage ended their American tour here late last year, they talked about the apparent camaraderie with Minnesotans.
Speaking of love to other states, shout out to our peeps in Pennsylvania! What a great game you gave us all. A nice end to a difficult season for us in Minneapolis where the game was played last Sunday. Dr. Dog hail from Philly so it's appropriate that they creep into the basement spot! Their new 'Critical Equation' is the sound of another band looking to walk away form some of their own history.
Submit your Chart Show ballot this week for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Winter Beer Dabbler (featuring Dem Atlas, McNasty Brass Band, and DJ Tiiiiiiiiiip) at the MN State Fairgrounds on February 24, 2018!
