Lukas Nelson performs in the Radio Heartland studio

Being the son of a country music legend doesn't get by Lukas Nelson. The 28-year-old singer grew up on the tour bus of his father, Willie Nelson, but Lukas never felt it was expected of him to carry on the family legacy. Lukas just started playing guitar, listening, watching, practicing, and now he tours with his own band, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real. He's very aware of his father's large shadow and knows that he has a gift that he only hopes will be as successful as his dad's.
The band's latest album came out in August and features Willie's guitar playing as well as Lukas's brother Micah, along with vocal help from Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius and from Lady Gaga. Lukas Nelson brought his acoustic guitar into the studio to talk about the album and to play a few tunes.
The track, "Set Me Down on a Cloud," which begins our interview, is taken from the album Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real on Fantasy Records.
