"He never does this the same way twice," Jon Herchert says in the sound booth. Herchert, a producer who goes by Dark Pony and the label head of Deck Night, is leaning forward, already relishing what's about to come. And then, on the other side of the glass, Thomas Abban's fingers spring to the frets of his acoustic guitar, over to the body for a series of taps, and back. His live version of "Echo" is literally too fast to follow, and according to Herchert, who helped him record his debut album A Sheik's Legacy, he does it differently every time.

Abban is a mysterious man and gifted guitarist, and all over the Twin Cities, people want to know more about him and his music. Count Local Show host Andrea Swensson in that group; to sate personal and scene-wide curiosity, she invited him into The Current's studios and asked about his history with the guitar, the artistic pressures he's had to overcome, and much more. Ethan Yeshaya (bass), L.A. Buckner (drums), and Jacob Dodd (keys) rounded out the band for "Symmetry & Black Tar" and "Fear," while Abban performed "Echo" on his own.
