alt-J bond with Mark Wheat and perform stripped-down songs in The Current studio
by Mark Wheat
October 20, 2017
When alt-J came in to The Current studio, little did they know it would feel like a reunion of sorts. Before their show at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium, Gus Unger-Hamilton and Joe Newman of alt-J stopped at The Current studio to play stripped-down versions of their songs. The Current's Mark Wheat hosted the session, and it turns out Wheat and the band members share a lot in common.
Specifically, Mark and Gus share common ties to Wisbech in Cambridgeshire, England. And Mark — like all the members of alt-J — is an alumnus of Leeds University.
Listen to the complete in-studio session to hear more from alt-J, listen to them reminisnce with Mark, and hear about how and why the band's inception at Leeds University proved so critical to their musical style and approach.
