For This Is The Kit, home is where the art is. The band members — Kate Stables, Rozi Plain and Jamie Whitby-Coles — are based in Paris, London and Bristol, respectively. But when they come together, they create beguiling and innovative music.

In town for a show at the Turf Club in St. Paul, This Is The Kit visited The Current for an in-studio session hosted by Mary Lucia. This Is The Kit's latest album is Moonshine Freeze, their first release on the Rough Trade Records label.

Stables, who is originally from Winchester, England (where she met bandmate Plain), says being signed to Rough Trade has given the band a bit further reach, but "We're still doing what we do, trundling around, playing gigs."

As they have reached larger audiences, Stables has taken note of how her songs have been described. "I'm amazed at how spot-on people have interpreted the stuff we do," Stables says, "and other times, I'm amazed at what a different interpretation they've got. But both is great; I don't write songs and music for everyone to know exactly what I mean because that's quite a big ask. It's just nice that people get what they want to from it, just their own interpretation is fine."
