At Target Field on Friday night, Billy Joel surprised fans with a special guest: Axl Rose, who jumped onstage to sing "Big Shot" and a cover of AC/DC’s "Highway to Hell" with the Piano Man. Rose was in town for Guns N' Roses Sunday show at U.S. Bank Stadium. (Star Tribune)

Fire forces evacuation at Spanish music festival
22,000 attendees were evacuated from an music festival in Spain on Saturday after the main stage burst into flames. The Unite EDM festival cited a "technical malfunction" as the cause of the blaze, which fortunately didn't cause any serious injuries. (Rolling Stone)
Justin Vernon covers Bill Withers
At the Newport Folk Festival on Saturday, a supergroup calling themselves Grandma's Hands paid tribute to Bill Withers with songs including "Ain't No Sunshine" and "Lovely Day." Among the band members: Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Alynda Segarra (Hurray for the Riff Raff), Patterson Hood (Drive-By Truckers), Natalie Prass, Phil Cook, and Hiss Golden Messenger. (Pitchfork)
Dr. Luke subpoenas Lady Gaga
Kesha is releasing music again, but her legal tug-of-war with Dr. Luke continues. Now, Dr. Luke has subpoenaed Lady Gaga, who the producer says "has relevant information regarding, among other things, false statements about Dr. Luke made to her by Kesha." According to Dr. Luke's lawyer, "This motion has become necessary because Dr. Luke's counsel has not been able to obtain, despite repeated request, a deposition date form Lady Gaga." (Pitchfork)
Remembering Bill Collings
Luthier Bill Collings has died of cancer at the age of 68. Since 1979, Collings's Texas-based company has produced over 20,000 guitars that prized by musicians including Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, Joni Mitchell, Eddie Van Halen, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, Lyle Lovett, Bill Frisell, and Emmylou Harris.
"Every day out here around the world I hold a piece of your excellence and heart and soul in my hands when I pick up your guitars," wrote Charlie Sexton in tribute to Collings. (New York Times)
Rick Ross spurs controversy — in Twins gear
Hip-hop star Rick Ross has been taking heat for a profane video interview in which he told hosts Angela Yee and Charlamagne tha God that he doesn't work with female rappers because he's afraid he'll hook up with them sexually and spoil the professional relationship. There's an odd local angle: for some reason, the Mississippi-born Ross conducted the interview wearing Minnesota Twins gear. (City Pages)
