Following the Friday, June 16, release of their latest album, The Nashville Sound, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit appeared on CBS's The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, June 20, where they performed the single, "Hope the High Road."
The Nashville Sound is the first album released under the full band name since 2011's Here We Rest. Since that time, Isbell released two albums under his own name: 2013's critically acclaimed Southeastern and 2015's Something More Than Free, which won a Grammy Award for Best Americana Album.
In their spirited performance of "Hope the High Road" on Colbert, we see a band eager to launch into their upcoming tour. In the video, watch for backing vocals on the choruses from Amanda Shires and Sadler Vaden, Isbell's slide-guitar solo during the bridge, and Vaden's Pete Townshend-style windmills in the song's coda. A projection of Isbell's distinctive anchor symbol is projected on the upstage wall throughout the performance.
Isbell will be the guest on Comedy Central's The Late Show with Trevor Noah on Wednesday, June 21.
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit will perform at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul on Friday, July 7, with The Mountain Goats opening. The show is sold out.
