Charlie Murphy died today at age 57 after a battle with leukemia. Murphy was an actor, writer and comedian. He was the older brother to actor Eddie Murphy, and a friend of Prince.
Murphy was best-known for his work on Chappelle's Show with Dave Chappelle. Murphy served as both a writer and a cast member for the show.
One particularly famous sketch from 2004 revolved around a story Charlie Murphy told about the time he and his brother ended up playing a game of basketball with Prince. According to Murphy, the game ended with Prince winning in a "landslide victory." Prince would later poke fun at the sketch by featuring a picture of Chappelle in full Prince costume on his album cover for his single "Breakfast Can Wait" in 2013.
This sketch, along with another about Rick James, were a part of a series Murphy did on Chappelle's Show called "Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories."
Along with Chapelle's Show, Murphy had a very successful stand-up career, and worked on many projects for both film and television -- such as a series adaptation of the movie Are We There Yet? and the film Night at the Museum.
The last tweet from Murphy's Twitter account was posted just yesterday, and is offering many fans and mourners food for thought.
