Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats are on their way back from a tour in the U.K. getting ready to fill First Avenue for The Current's holiday show on Dec. 6 by rising to No.1! With the Black Friday edition of Record Store Day happening Nov. 25 they have issued a A Little Something More From EP that includes a live version of "Wasting Time" recorded at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music.
Submit your Chart Show ballot this week for a chance to win tickets to the New Standards Holiday Show at the State Theatre on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016!
Bon Iver creep up to No.2 this week. They have a massive tour lined up for Europe in 2017, much of which is already sold out. They've just added two more NYC shows on Dec. 3 and 4, because they've sold out eight in the city already?!?!
A Tribe Called Quest are the highest new entry the following their first No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart in 20 years. The group may have one more tour in them because, as they mention in an extensive NPR interview "musicians never retire!"
Haley Bonar is back at No.12. She plays a one-off next Tuesday in her home state of South Dakota at the Dahl Arts Center, then she's taking local band Night Moves with her on a short West Coast tour in December.
New at No.14 is Leonard Cohen, Canada's most celebrated poet, musician and songwriter who passed away on Nov. 7 after making what he knew would be his final album. It is deep, dark and Cohen-esque to the extreme. There are some regrets, but it sounds like he was at peace at the end. It was a life well-lived, as I said in my review for The Current's Album of the Week.
The Shins are back at No.20! After frontman James Mercer's success with Broken Bells, a collaboration with Danger Mouse, we were unsure if there would be another album from the band, but it's coming early 2017! They have one show officially booked in the first week of March in Phoenix, AZ but will likely be announced on the Coachella lineup soon enough.
Drive-By Truckers are inducted to the Chart Show Hall of Fame for the first time. They agreed that their latest American Band album was their most personal and political in an interview with us earlier in the year. Now Billboard has just featured Patterson Hood of the band talking about protest music following the election.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I will be thankful for all of you who vote for the Chart Show every week. We couldn't do it without you. Cheers!
