Julia Jacklin performs in The Current studio

Rising Australian artist Julia Jacklin stopped by The Current to chat with New Hot host David Safar and to perform songs off her debut album Don't Let the Kids Win live in-studio.
Don't Let the Kids Win was recorded in August 2015, but it wasn't until this past March when Jacklin picked up steam at SXSW with eight shows during the annual music festival in Austin, TX. Now the album is poised to appear on 2016 year-end lists.
Jacklin grew up among the beautiful Blue Mountains outside of Sydney, but it's her time in America that has evoked some of her fondest memories. She's backpacked across the States twice now.
"I honestly can say that the best week of my life was the first week I came to America. 100%," said Julia. "And one of the best times of my life was in Las Vegas."
Julia stayed at the infamous Circus Circus from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and as a starry-eyed 22-year-old with a camera, she soaked in the strange sites and people.
But her songwriting focuses on much more minute moments, like the first time her brother starting dating or when her sister got engaged. Julia's all about the little shifts in time that hit you harder than you might expect.
