First Avenue adds Morris Day and The Time, Bilal, and Doug E. Fresh to Prince tribute aftershow

by Cecilia Johnson

October 12, 2016

The day before the Prince tribute at the Xcel Energy Center, First Avenue afterparty ticketholders got a huge surprise. "Just announced! A very special aftershow following the concert in St. Paul featuring Morris Day & The Time, Doug E. Fresh, Bilal, and more at First Avenue," reads an email that the venue sent out this afternoon. First Avenue had originally promoted an afterparty featuring DJs Jake Rudh, Espada, and Mike 2600 (all of whom spun at the all-night dance party the day Prince died), and all three will stay on the line-up. But with Day, Fresh, and Bilal joining the bill, the (18+, $65) First Ave event has become one of the most anticipated Prince tribute events in town.

Tickets for the original event will be honored, notes First Avenue's show page, and proceeds will still go to the Sabathani Community Center, the same South Minneapolis center that Sheila E's Orchestra Hall concert will benefit on October 23.
