Now in its second year, Local Current’s DJ in Residence program is an opportunity for The Current to invite local musicians to take over our all-Minnesota music stream and share their favorite stories and music from the local music scene. So far, Local Current’s DJ in Residence roster has included Eric Mayson, Kerry Alexander (Bad Bad Hats), Mina Moore, Gabriel Douglas, and many others. Taking the reins in October is hip-hop artist and celebrated collaborator Sean Anonymous.
Sean Anonymous has been an active member of the Minneapolis music scene since 2005, when he first teamed up with Tony Phantom and Dimitry Killstorm to join Wide Eyes. After years of local gigs and countless hours in the studio, 2012 saw the release of Sean’s solo debut, Anonymo. Since then, Sean Anonymous has released a number of solo albums and collaborative projects that have highlighted his relentlessly energetic performance, humbly honest lyrics, and enigmatic and rapid fire delivery.
Maybe you’ve packed into First Avenue’s Mainroom to see one of Sean’s sold-out shows, but he has also represented the Minnesota hip-hop scene nationally. Playing festivals like Vans Warped Tour and SXSW, Sean Anonymous has shared stages with legendary artists such as Del the Funky Homosapien, Talib Kweli, KRS One, and fellow hometown favorites like Lizzo and P.O.S. Sean will celebrate the release of his new album, 2:44AM, at Icehouse on Saturday night.
On the topic of his new gig as Local Current’s DJ in Residence, Sean says: “I'm excited and thankful to bring music that I love to a broader audience, and at the same time reacquaint myself with with our amazing local music scene.”
Spend your Friday afternoons diving deep into the Minnesota music scene with Sean Anonymous: every Friday in October from noon to 6 p.m. on Local Current!
