With their highly-anticipated album 22, A Million set for release tomorrow, Bon Iver have announced events in cities around the world tonight. While the nature of the events isn't specified, it seems likely they'll be listening parties like one that took place last night in the band's home town of Eau Claire, Wisc.
After Bon Iver announced a mysterious event taking place last night, the Eau Claire NBC affiliate reports, "Police had to block off part of Eau Claire Street in front of the State Theater to accommodate the overflow crowd. When 6:30 hit a few people stepped up in front of the large mural and unloaded thousands of large newspapers and other band memorabilia. The crowd rushed in to get their glimpse at what the hype was all about. 500 copies of a Bon Iver album art newspaper were distributed to waiting fans."
The station has video of the event, which included the new album being played on a boom box in front of a mural featuring the album art. Similar murals recently appeared at the other locations indicated by Bon Iver's event announcements — including at the corner of Lake Street and Knox Avenue in Minneapolis, where tonight's event is set to take place at 6:30 p.m. In addition to Minneapolis, events are planned for Los Angeles, Mexico City, Brooklyn, Paris, Amsterdam, London, Copenhagen, Berlin, and Melbourne.
Some fans were hoping to see Vernon himself last night in Eau Claire, but nope — he was busy playing a surprise secret show in Berlin.
