Music News: Garth Brooks breaks Beatles sales record

Garth Brooks now has seven diamond albums — that is, seven albums that have each sold over ten million copies. That breaks a tie Brooks previously had with the Beatles, who've only gone diamond a mere six times. The Beatles still, however, have sold more albums in total than Brooks has. (Billboard)

The xx come back
The xx have announced their first live performances in three years. The band are making three festival appearances next spring, and are widely expected to release a new album by the end of this year — though no release has been officially announced as of yet. (NME)
The Last Waltz gets longer
The Band will reissue their swan-song live album The Last Waltz later this year, in multiple different configurations, to celebrate the album's 40th anniversary. Deluxe editions will include complete audio from the band's goodbye show, including rehearsals and outtakes; a limited collector's edition will have video of a rare 1990s interview with Robbie Robertson and the film's director Martin Scorsese, as well as the entire shooting script. See Iggy Pop nude
In March, Iggy Pop posed nude for a life drawing class organized by the New York Academy of Art. Those drawings are now set to go on display at the Brooklyn Museum starting Nov. 4, and an associated book will be released on Oct. 20. "It wasn't about my winkie, or anything," said Pop about the experience. "It was just a documentation of what's left of me." (NME)

Even after the South by South Lawn festival, the White House will remain relevant in the music world: Chance the Rapper has been booked to play the National Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 1, along with Kelly Clarkson and gospel singer Yolanda Adams. (Billboard)
Robin Pecknold shares the sweater love
Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes has given a sweater to the creator of a Tumblr blog that collects photos of Pecknold wearing the sweater. "Lesson learned," the woman who created the blog wrote on her Instagram, "make a meme out of a sweater when you're in high school and 5 years later you might just receive it in the mail." (Pitchfork)
