The Bad Plus have announced that they will be back for their 17th annual holiday-season performances. After a run of Midwest shows throughout December, the trio will return to their Minnesota roots for eight shows at the Dakota Jazz Club right before the New Year.

The trio, based in New York City, have been touring behind their new album It's Hard. Active since 2000, the acclaimed and innovative group now have 14 albums under their belt.

With every new album, the Bad Plus become "bigger and more audacious...somewhere between refreshing and downright awe-inspiring,” said CMJ Monthly. The trio's drummer Dave King also hosts a jazz show here on The Current: King's Speech can be heard on Sundays from 9-10 p.m.

Performances, on Dec. 22-23 and 25-26, will be twice a night: 7:00 ($45) and 9:00 ($40). Tickets are now on sale.

Erianna Jiles is a student at Saint Paul College.
