Mixed Blood files claim against Prince estate

Minneapolis company Mixed Blood Theatre has filed a claim against Prince’s estate for $350,000. Prior to Prince's death, the company had a benefit gala scheduled at Paisley Park. The gala would have taken place on May 14, but it was canceled by the Bremer Trust despite what Mixed Blood says were assurances from Paisley Park staff that the gala could go on because "Prince wanted this event to happen."

Bowie's final recordings to be released

An Oct. 21 release of cast recordings from Lazarus will include David Bowie’s own versions of three songs from the musical. Producers say these were the last studio recordings Bowie made before his death on Jan. 10. (Billboard)

Remembering two music notables

Music industry heavyweight Chris Stone has died of a heart attack at age 81. In 1968, Stone co-founded New York's Record Plant recording studio; within a few years, Record Plants in L.A. and Sausalito followed. Albums recorded at the Record Plant in New York include Electric Ladyland  (the Jimi Hendrix Experience), Born to Run (Bruce Springsteen), Rumours (Fleetwood Mac), and She's So Unusual (Cyndi Lauper). Electronics retailer "Crazy Eddie" Antar has died of undisclosed causes at age 68. Antar's Crazy Eddie chain, which was founded in 1971 and grew to a peak of 43 stores, was known for its TV ads that claimed "Our prices are insane!" Antar later served time on fraud charges. (Billboard)
