A French Metallica fan has combined the live-streamed audio of the band's Aug. 20 U.S. Bank Stadium show with 77 different fan-shot videos to create a 140-minute concert film of the band's entire performance. It's official, now certified by the Guinness Book: Ringo Starr’s personal copy of the Beatles’ "White Album" has become the most expensive LP ever sold at auction. The drummer had copy number 0000001, in pristine condition, and sold the set for $790,000 at an auction in December — with proceeds going to Starr's social-welfare charity. The sale more than doubled the previous record of $305,000, the price Jack White paid for the first recording ever made by Elvis Presley. (Billboard)

Meanwhile, White has shared an alternate version of the Raconteurs’ "Carolina Drama." The track will appear on White's forthcoming Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016, which will be released on Sept. 9. (Pitchfork)

"Famous" sculpture goes up for sale

It was (mostly) clear to viewers of Kanye West’s video for his song "Famous" that we weren't actually looking at the nude, sleeping bodies of Donald Trump and Taylor Swift, among others — so what were we looking at? A sculpture by the creative collective DONDA, powered with batteries so the bodies appeared to be breathing. The sculpture is now on display at a Los Angeles gallery, which is hoping to sell it for $4 million. One knowledgable artist who's viewed the piece estimates that its manufacture cost $500,000 to $1 million. (New York Times)

Nick Jonas...and the New Power Generation?

Yes, it's true: as superfans of both Prince and the Jonas Brothers know, in 2010 Nick Jonas released an album with a band called "the Administration," containing key members of the New Power Generation. On Wednesday night, Jonas zipped off after his Grandstand show with Demi Lovato and reunited the Administration for a late-night surprise show at the Fine Line Music Cafe. No Prince covers, but they did pull out their Billy Joel number. (Star Tribune)

Bey beats Lemonade lawsuit

A judge has dismissed a lawsuit from Matthew Fulks, a filmmaker who claims Beyoncé stole his ideas for her Lemonade visual album. As Pitchfork notes, Beyoncé's representatives "said her film did not take from his because hers is about 'an African-American woman who progresses through stages of suspicion, denial, anger and, ultimately, reconciliation in her relationship.' They reportedly said Fulks’ film, in contrast, depicted a 'white man who is distressed in the wake of a failed relationship.'”

What's fine art?

We could argue all day over what exactly constitutes "fine art," but we wouldn't have any money riding on the answer — unlike Chicago venue owners, who are exempt from an amusement tax if they're purveyors of "fine art." Authorities are in agreement that includes opera and ballet, but what about rap and rock? At least one city decision said that DJs spinning records could be legally construed as "fine art," but Cook County commissioners aren't so sure: at a recent hearing over whether small clubs had to pay the tax, a county officer decided that "rap music, country music, and rock ‘n’ roll" definitely do not qualify as "fine art." Do they or don't they? Venue owners who present popular music are looking for a definitive answer. (AV Club)
