Prince’s sister Tyka Nelson has suggested that Apollonia 6 will be present for at least one of the Revolution’s upcoming reunion shows at First Avenue. "I'll be down at First Avenue Sept 2nd," Nelson writes on Facebook. "My gurl Apol[l]onia and the 6 will be there along with Andre Cymone and The Revolution." Two years ago, Apollonia returned to First Avenue for the first time since filming Purple Rain there. The Revolution are playing three sold-out shows at First Avenue, Sept. 1-3.

Update: First Avenue confirms that Apollonia "will be making a special appearance" this weekend.

In her post, Nelson also mentions being at the Minnesota State Fair for Friday's "Unite in Purple" event and refers to the upcoming opening of Paisley Park and official Prince tribute concert.

Meanwhile, Apollonia herself shared a long, emotional reflection about Prince and their relationship. "I feel like your widow," writes the singer and actor. "I was so excited because you were going to bring me back to Paisley Park to see the finished Purple Rain Room with our images in murals painted on the walls. You wanted to celebrate with A6 and present to us our Platinum Albums."

VMAs: Beyoncé passes Madonna

As of Sunday's ceremony, Beyoncé has the most MTV Video Music Awards of any artist — passing Madonna, whose 20 Moonmen previously gave her a commanding lead. On Sunday night, though, Beyoncé added six new awards — including Video of the Year, for "Formation" — to her previous 16, making her the most-honored artist in VMA history. (Billboard) Beyoncé also, the New York Times reports, "made one of the few coherent political statements of the night when she invited the mothers of four black men killed in racially charged episodes to join her on the red carpet."

Remembering two music notables

Local recording engineer Monty Lee Wilkes, who worked with artists ranging from Prince to Britney Spears, has died at age 54 after receiving a diagnosis of terminal cancer. "With a rainbow array of Sharpie markers and a briefcase as his tools of the trade," writes Chris Riemenscheider in the Star Tribune, "Wilkes’ impressively varied résumé also included stints with Soul Asylum, the Suburbs, Babes in Toyland, the Smithereens, Alice in Chains, Joe Strummer, Lisa Marie Presley, Red Kross, Siouxsie & the Banshees, the Go-Gos, the dBs, the B-52’s, and, another recent one, the Commodores."

Juan Gabriel, one of Mexico's biggest stars, has died of a heart attack at age 66. With a series of recent hits on the Latin charts, Gabriel — says Billboard — "was arguably at the apex of his career, despite his age."

Jack White plays ball

Jack White "played first base and had a couple at-bats" for the Third Man Records baseball team in a celebrity match in Alabama on Friday night, Pitchfork reports, as part of designer Billy Reid’s Shindig to benefit charity.

Lennon's killer denied parole

Mark David Chapman has been denied parole — for the ninth time. Chapman is currently imprisoned for murdering John Lennon on Dec. 8, 1980. Lennon's widow Yoko Ono wrote a note arguing against parole, notes Billboard.

A couple at a Bruce Springsteen show in New Jersey last week became engaged onstage while the Boss sang his cover of Tom Waits’s "Jersey Girl." "A Jersey girl named Jill got the best engagement story ever," notes Billboard, "as her boyfriend of eight years declared his love for her was stronger than his love of the Boss."
