The Minnesota Wild have announced that in response to fan demand, they're officially changing the song played in celebration when the team scores a goal. Formerly Joe Satriani's "Crowd Chant," the song will now be Prince's "Let's Go Crazy."
The Wild seem surprised to have made national headlines merely by surveying season ticket holders about the change. The team say that season ticket holders voted 2-to-1 in favor of the change, and "the Wild also received a substantial number of calls, emails and social media comments from fans."
The new goal celebration song will debut (presuming the team scores at least one goal) on Sept. 27 when the Colorado Avalanche come to the Xcel Energy Center for the Wild's first home preseason game. "It's our privilege to celebrate an iconic hometown artist that clearly has had an incredible impact on our community and the world," said team VP John Maher in a statement.
The team also plan to honor Prince on Friday at their Minnesota State Fair booth as part of the fair's "Unite in Purple" celebration.
