Jack White plays first vinyl record in space

Nashville rocker Jack White has successfully played a vinyl record in space — the first person ever to do so. On Saturday, White launched a gold-plated 12-inch master of Carl Sagan's "A Glorious Dawn" using a 'space-proof' turntable attached to a high-altitude balloon. The vessel — known as "The Icarus Craft" — ascended 94,413 feet above the earth in less than 90 minutes. (Consequence of Sound)

List of possible heirs to Prince estate narrowed to six

Last Friday, Carver County Judge Kevin Eide threw out the requests of 30 individuals who filed claims to Prince's estate, deciding they are not related to the musician. Genetic testing has been ordered on six people believed to be related to Prince, including siblings/half-siblings Tyka Nelson, Sharon Nelson, Norrine Nelson and John Nelson, as well as possible niece/grand-niece, Brianna Nelson and Victoria Nelson. Artists perform 'Love Songs of Lou Reed' at Lincoln Center

On Saturday, the Out of Doors concert series at Lincoln Center hosted a day-long tribute to iconic singer/songwriter Lou Reed, who passed away in 2013. A number of artists showed up to cover Velvet Underground and Lou Reed songs, including Lucinda Williams (“Pale Blue Eyes”), Emily Haines of Metric (“Cremation,” “I’ll Be Your Mirror”), and Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon (“Hang on to Your Emotions,” “The Power of the Heart”). Billy Corgan hints at Smashing Pumpkins reunion

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is telling fans to expect something 'big' coming up in the near future, causing many to speculate on a Pumpkins reunion. This would mark the first time since 2000 that Corgan, guitarist James Iha, drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, and bassist D'arcy Wretzky would perform together. “There’s some big stuff happening,” Corgan explained in a Facebook live video on Thursday. “We’re making plans. I can’t give that away, but it’s going to be interesting.” Industry sources tell Consequence of Sound that Corgan is indeed shopping a reunion for shows and festival slots next summer. Reggae star Beenie Man cancels gig after Zika diagnosis

On Saturday, Beenie Man canceled his appearance at Toronto's OVO Fest, saying he was denied a Canadian visa after contracting the Zika virus. The Jamaican artist shared a photo of himself undergoing blood tests on Instagram, writing "No visa fi mi Canada show … Zika Virus hol’ mi." (Rolling Stone)

1,000 musicians cover "Seven Nation Army"

A group of over 1,000 Italian musicians (calling themselves Rockin'1000) recently gathered at a stadium in Cesena, Italy to perform a thunderous rendition of the White Stripes hit, "Seven Nation Army." Touting themselves as "the biggest rock band on earth," the same ensemble covered Foo Fighters' "Learn to Fly" last summer, leading Dave Grohl to promise that his band would come do a show in Cesena.
